Roles and permissions
Create, edit, and archive roles, and understand every permission shown in the role form.
Use roles to give each teammate the access they need. A member can have several roles, and the permissions from their active roles add together.
Before you start
Select the correct workspace. Decide which tasks the member needs to do. The owner already has access without being assigned a role; a role does not make someone the owner.
Who can do this: only the workspace owner can create, edit, archive, assign, or revoke roles.
Create a role
Open a new role
Open Settings > Roles and select New role.
Choose its permissions
Enter Name (1) and an optional Description. Under Permissions (2), select the tasks this role should allow. Scroll inside the permission list to see all groups.
Create and assign it
Select Create role (3). Then open Settings > Members and use Manage roles to assign it. See members.
Edit a role
Open Role actions beside the role and select Edit. Change Name, Description, or Permissions, then select Save changes. Changes affect members who use that role.
Archive a role
Open Role actions beside an active role, select Archive, and confirm with Archive role.
Archiving removes the permissions that role grants to assigned members. Archived roles remain in the list for history, but cannot be newly assigned. Other active roles can still grant a member the same permissions.
Permission reference
The bold labels below match the role form. Some labels describe capabilities that have no dashboard control yet. Plan limits still apply, even when a role permits an action.
Workspace and members
These permissions do not expose owner-only editing controls to other members in the current dashboard.
| Permission label | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Update workspace name and slug | Workspace details. In the dashboard, only the owner can edit the name; the slug stays read-only. |
| List and view workspace members | Access to the workspace member list. |
| Invite, resend, and revoke member invitations | Invitation management. The dashboard only provides the owner's invitation creation dialog. |
| Suspend, reactivate, and remove members | Changing a member's access. These dashboard controls are owner-only. |
| List pending and historical invitations | Invitation records. There is no invitation history page in the dashboard. |

Good to know
- Role assignment is for active members in this workspace.
- Suspending a member keeps their role assignments, but pauses their access.
- If role permissions cannot load, use the page's retry option before editing.
